There’s a difference between getting a price and getting good advice.
When you’re planning a landscape or outdoor living project, it’s easy to start by asking for estimates. But a number by itself doesn’t tell you what should be done, what needs attention first or how the pieces of your yard affect each other. That’s why VHS Outdoor Living charges $50 for an on-site consultation.
An estimate and a consultation aren’t the same thing
A free estimate is usually built around a simple question: What will it cost to install this? A consultation starts earlier in the process. We want to understand what you’re trying to accomplish, how you use the space and what is happening on the property before we recommend what to build.
That matters even more when a project includes several parts of the yard. Drainage can affect a patio. Irrigation can affect new planting. Grading can change where water goes. A retaining wall, pergola, outdoor kitchen or pool may change how the rest of the space needs to be planned. Looking at the whole property helps us catch those connections before construction starts.
What your $50 landscape consultation includes
Your consultation includes up to two hours at your property with an experienced VHS consultant. We’ll walk the yard with you, talk through your ideas, look at existing conditions and answer questions specific to your project.
We can talk about layout, materials, drainage, irrigation, maintenance, priorities and budget. Sometimes that means confirming the plan you already have. Sometimes it means pointing out something you hadn’t considered. And sometimes the most useful advice is telling you where you may not need to spend money.
You also get a detailed proposal
After the consultation, we prepare a detailed, line-by-line proposal. You can see what we’re recommending and what each part of the project costs. That makes it easier to understand where the money is going, adjust priorities and make informed decisions about the project.
The proposal is yours whether you decide to hire VHS or not. There’s no obligation to move forward after the consultation.
Why don’t we offer free landscaping estimates?
Because we don’t want the first conversation about your yard to be a race to produce a number. Good outdoor projects take thought. We to have the time to walk the property, ask questions, explain what we see and help you understand your options. For us, the consultation isn’t a sales pitch before the real work begins. It is part of the work.
