Your plants are thirsty. Let's do something about that.
VHS Outdoor Living designs and installs irrigation systems for San Antonio homeowners. Our work includes lawn sprinkler systems, drip irrigation for planting beds, smart controllers, rain sensors, backflow prevention, and system repairs as part of complete outdoor projects. We have a licensed irrigator on staff. Every system is planned around the yard it serves, including the lawn, planting beds, water pressure, site conditions, and how those areas need to be watered.

Water is Expensive. Don't Waste it.
San Antonio summers ask a lot of a landscape. Without a reliable irrigation system, you're either hand-watering, watching things die, or running up a SAWS bill with a system that's spraying sidewalks and driveways.
A good system does the opposite. Lawn, planting beds, trees, and lower-water areas can have different watering needs, so we design zones and choose irrigation methods accordingly. The goal is to put water where it does the most good without using more than the landscape needs.
SAWS Has Rules. We Know All of Them.
San Antonio has watering rules that affect when and how automatic irrigation systems can run, and those requirements can change with drought conditions. A system designed without those parameters in mind creates compliance problems from day one.
We design and program systems with local requirements, available water pressure, soil conditions, and the needs of the landscape in mind. Our licensed irrigator brings the technical knowledge to make those pieces work together.

Water Smarter, Not Harder
Match the Thirst
Lawn, native plants, shrubs, trees, sunny beds and shaded beds shouldn't automatically be treated the same. We group areas so each part of the landscape can be watered appropriately.
Coverage Counts
More sprinkler heads don't necessarily mean better watering. Placement, spray patterns, and available water pressure all affect how evenly the system covers the yard.
Know When to Drip
Drip and spray irrigation do different jobs. Spray works well for many lawn areas, while drip can deliver water closer to the root zone in planting beds and lower-water landscapes.
Set it, Then Check It
Irrigation needs change with the seasons and as a new landscape becomes established. We program the system at installation, but watering schedules should change as the yard does.
Everything Your Yard Needs to Stay Hydrated
Irrigation Services for South Texas Yards
Zoned sprinkler systems designed around your lawn's shape, grade, grass type, and available water pressure. We plan head placement and coverage so the system distributes water as evenly and efficiently as practical.
Lawn Sprinkler Systems
Low-flow drip lines installed in planting beds and other areas where overhead spray isn't the best fit. Drip delivers water closer to the root zone and works especially well for xeriscapes, native plantings, and defined planting beds.
Drip Irrigation
Wi-Fi-enabled controllers make it easier to adjust watering schedules based on weather and seasonal conditions. We program the system before handoff and show you how to make adjustments.
Smart Controllers
Rain and freeze sensors can prevent an automatic system from running when conditions don't call for it. We install the required shutoff or sensing equipment as part of new systems based on current local and state requirements.
Rain Sensors
Backflow prevention protects the potable water supply from irrigation water flowing in the wrong direction. We install the appropriate backflow equipment for the system and local requirements.
Backflow Prevention
We repair and upgrade irrigation systems as part of complete outdoor projects. We can evaluate your current system and tell you what's worth keeping and redesign what isn't.
System Repair and Upgrades
What Does Irrigation Cost in San Antonio?
Estimated Pricing
-
New Irrigation: $2,500–$8,000
-
Repair/Upgrade of Existing Irrigation: $1,000–$3,500
Irrigation pricing depends on the size of the yard, number of zones, system type, and whether it's a new install or an upgrade to an existing system.
What moves the price:
-
Square footage and number of zones required
-
Water pressure and supply line location
-
Smart controller vs. standard timer
-
Drip vs. spray vs. combination system
-
Existing infrastructure that can be reused

What's the difference between drip and spray irrigation? Spray heads distribute water over a wider area and work well for lawns and ground covers. Drip irrigation delivers water slowly and directly to root zones through small emitters. Drip is more efficient for planting beds, native plants, and anything where precise watering matters. Most complete systems use both.
Frequently
Asked Questions
How do I know how many zones I need? Zone count depends on your yard's size, shape, plant types, and water pressure. Each zone should cover plants with similar water needs at similar pressure. We determine zone layout during the design phase before any installation begins.
Can you fix my existing irrigation system? We repair and upgrade irrigation systems as part of complete outdoor projects. If you have an isolated repair need without a larger project scope, our Irrigation Tune-Up service is available for past VHS clients.
What are SAWS watering restrictions and how do they affect my system? SAWS limits outdoor irrigation to specific days and times based on your address and the time of year. Restrictions are typically two days per week during summer months.
What happens after my irrigation system is installed? We program and test the system before handoff and walk you through how it works. For irrigation installed as part of a landscape project, our Well Check process also gives us a chance to revisit the yard, check how things are watering, and make adjustments where needed.
How long does an irrigation installation take? Most residential irrigation installations take one to three days depending on yard size and system complexity. We give you a clear timeline in the project proposal before work begins.
