Landscape & Outdoor Living Design in San Antonio, TX

The Blueprint for a Better Yard

VHS Outdoor Living is a San Antonio landscape design-build company specializing in complete outdoor spaces. We design with construction in mind, bringing landscaping, patios, outdoor kitchens, drainage and other parts of the yard together as one plan.

Our Design Philosophy

We're Good Listeners

We Get to Know Your Yard.

Before we recommend anything, we look at drainage, grade, sun, soil, existing conditions, and what your property can realistically support.

We Learn How You Live in It.We want to know where your family gathers, how you entertain, and what you want more room to do outside.

We Find Your Style.

Modern Hill Country, cottage garden, Mediterranean, native Texas, or somewhere in between. We design around your home and what you're drawn to.

Then We Bring It All Together.
We turn it into a plan you can see, understand, refine, and eventually build. We'll walk through the layout, materials, planting, and 3D views when they're helpful.

Two Ways to Work with Us

Some homeowners already have a pretty good idea of what they want to build. Others need to see possibilities, compare layouts, and work through ideas before they're ready to decide. Our design-build process gives you two ways to get there.

Design + Build Path

Consultation →  Construction Contract → Design Development → Scheduling → Build

Design + Build

This is how most of our clients work with us.

During your consultation, we'll talk through your project and agree on the scope of work. We'll then prepare a detailed proposal for that scope.

Once you approve the project and sign your construction contract, we develop the design around what we've agreed to build. We'll work through the layout, materials, plants, and construction details needed to bring it all together.

This path is best when you know the general scope of your project and don't need to explore multiple design directions before moving forward.

Expanded Design Path

Consultation → Design Contract → Design Development → Construction Contract → Scheduling → Build

Expanded Design

This path gives you more room to explore before deciding exactly what you'll build. Through two to three design meetings and up to two rounds of revisions, we'll compare layouts, work through materials and planting, try ideas, and refine the plan around your property, priorities, and budget.

Your completed design includes 2D plans, 3D renderings, a 3D flythrough video, plant lists, and material selections. Once the design is finalized, we'll prepare a detailed construction proposal based on the plan.

A separate design contract and retainer are collected at the start of this path. The retainer varies based on project scope.

More Than a Pretty Plan

Because a yard has to do more than look good on paper.

Designed With the Budget in Mind

It's no fun falling in love with a plan only to find out you can't afford to build it. We talk about budget early and keep it in mind as we design, helping you decide where to invest, where to simplify, and which choices will give you the most for what you want to spend.

Space Planning & Flow

How do you get from your back door to the pool? Where do guests naturally end up? Where does the afternoon shade fall? Good space planning answers these questions. We think about traffic patterns, functional zones, and how different parts of the yard connect to each other and to your home.

Plans That Match Reality

A design should be more than a pretty picture. Every plan is drawn to scale using your yard’s real measurements, so the layout reflects the space you have and can be used to guide construction.

Every Detail Considered

Our designs don't stop at layouts. Every design includes the details that help turn the plan into a real project, including plant lists, material selections, and project specifications.

Designed for South Texas

A design has to hold up to San Antonio heat, soil, and unpredictable rainfall. We consider what plants perform here, how materials age in our climate, and what the space will need to keep working well over time.

Drainage Built In

Drainage is one of the most misunderstood parts of outdoor design in South Texas. Before we lay out any hardscape or planting plan, we look at how your yard slopes and where water goes when it rains. Getting drainage right from the beginning protects everything that comes after it.
