Your Yard Needs a Soundtrack

A water feature does something no other element in a yard can do. It adds sound. The sound of moving water masks street noise, creates a sense of calm, and makes a yard feel bigger and more private than it is.

It can also give the landscape a focal point. A fountain can anchor a planting bed, a waterfall can work into a slope or retaining wall, and a pond can bring birds and other wildlife into the yard.

Where it goes matters. We think about where you'll hear it, where you'll see it, and how it fits into the surrounding landscape before deciding on the size and placement.

Water in Texas Has Its Own Rules

San Antonio heat affects more than how often you have to add water. Reservoir size, pump selection, sun exposure, and water movement all affect how a feature performs through the summer.

Ponds bring a few more considerations, including filtration, algae, aquatic plants, and water quality. We account for those things during the design so you understand what the feature will need before you decide which type belongs in your yard.

Water Features & Ponds for South Texas Yards.

Freestanding and built-in fountains in natural stone, cast stone, and custom masonry. Fountains work well in courtyards, entry areas, planting beds, and smaller spaces where you want the sound and movement of water in a compact footprint.

Fountains

Waterfalls can be built into slopes, retaining walls, and natural boulder arrangements. The height, stone placement, and water flow all affect the sound, so we design them around both how they look and what you want to hear.

Waterfalls

Ponds create an open body of water that can include aquatic plants, natural stone edges, and fish. We plan the depth, filtration, circulation, and surrounding landscape for San Antonio conditions and walk you through the maintenance before you commit to one.

Ponds

Water disappears into a hidden underground reservoir and recirculates through the feature. Pondless systems are popular for homeowners who want moving water and sound with a smaller footprint and less maintenance than a pond.

Pondless Water Features

Water can also be incorporated into retaining walls, hardscape, pool areas, and larger outdoor living designs. Bring us the idea and we'll help you figure out how it can work within the space.

Custom and Integrated Features

What is the difference between a pond and a pondless water feature? A pond has an open body of water with aquatic plants and sometimes fish. A pondless feature recirculates water through a hidden underground reservoir — you get the movement and sound without the open water. Pondless features are lower maintenance and safer for yards with small children and pets.

Frequently
Asked Questions

How much maintenance does a water feature require? It depends on the type. Fountains are the lowest maintenance. Pondless features require occasional reservoir checks and seasonal cleaning. Ponds require the most maintenance — water chemistry, algae management, and filter cleaning. We walk through maintenance expectations for each type during the consultation.

How does the San Antonio heat affect a water feature? Evaporation rates are higher here than in most climates, which affects how often you need to top off the reservoir. We size reservoirs and specify pumps with the local climate in mind so the feature runs correctly through summer without constant attention.

Do water features attract mosquitoes? Moving water doesn't attract mosquitoes the way standing water does. Fountains, waterfalls, and pondless features all keep water circulating, which makes them a poor environment for mosquito breeding. Ponds with proper filtration and aquatic plants are also manageable with the right setup.
