Modern Hill Country Backyard Renovation

Project type

Pool & Landscape Design & Installation

Location

Boerne, TX

Pool Designed by VHS

These Boerne homeowners had plenty of space to work with and a long wish list for it. They wanted a pool, an outdoor kitchen and covered entertaining space, landscaping throughout the property, and a few features designed specifically around how their family lives. We created the master plan and carried the modern Hill Country style from the house through the outdoor spaces.

Large concrete pads with turf joints create a clean transition between the house, pool, patios, and custom pavilion. The pavilion adds plenty of covered space for cooking and entertaining, with a full outdoor kitchen and bar seating. VHS also designed the pool and worked with Cody Pools on its construction.

As the landscape moves out into the property, it gets a little more relaxed. River-rock dry creek beds curve through beds filled with limestone boulders, native and water-conscious plants, palms, ornamental grasses, and new trees. The rock adds color and texture, but it also helps manage the way water moves across the acreage. A water reclamation tank captures water that can be reused for irrigation.

Steel edging gives the beds their crisp curves, landscape lighting was planned throughout, artificial turf keeps the areas around the pool green without adding more watering, and the homeowners even asked us to work a dedicated dog-washing station into the plan.

Now there’s room to swim, cook, gather, let the dogs get dirty and wash them off again, all without losing the open Hill Country feel that made the property special in the first place.
