From Bare Lot to Backyard Retreat

When these homeowners built their new home on an acre in Pecan Springs, the house was finished but the landscape was basically a blank slate. We worked through several ideas together, weighing the pros and cons of each, then designed the property to feel softer, more established, and connected from front to back.

One of our favorite details is the flagstone stepping path that winds through the lawn from the driveway toward the house and continues the relaxed feel into the backyard. Curving landscape beds bring in layers of ornamental grasses, agaves, flowering Texas-adapted plants, and plenty of color while working with the mature oaks already on the property. Instead of competing with the clean lines and limestone exterior of the home, the landscaping softens them.

Out back, we added more pathways to connect the different parts of the property, along with a fire pit gathering area and overhead string lights for evenings outside. The result feels full without feeling overly landscaped, with plenty to look at as you move through the yard and room for the landscape to keep getting better as it grows in.
